To be a True Aurovilian

진정한 오로빌리언이 되려면

1. The first thing needed is the inner discovery, to find out what one truly is behind social, moral, cultural, racial and hereditary appearances. At the centre there is a being, free and vast and knowing, who awaits our discovery and who should become the active centre of our being and our life in Auroville.

1. 첫째로 요구되는 것은 내면의 발견, 곧 사회, 도덕, 문화, 인종 및 유전적 겉모습 뒤에 있는 자신의 참모습을 발견하는 것입니다. 그 중심에는 자유롭고, 광대하며 전지한 존재가 있어 우리가 찾아내기만을 기다리고 있으니, 그것이 오로빌에서의 우리의 삶과 존재의 살아있는 중심이 되어야만 합니다.

2. One lives in Auroville to be free from moral and social conventions; but this freedom must not be a new enslavement to the ego, to its desires and ambitions. The fulfilment of one’s desires bars the way to the inner discovery which can only be achieved in the peace and transparency of perfect disinterestedness.

2. 우리는 도덕과 사회적 인습으로부터 자유로워지기 위해 오로빌로 왔습니다; 하지만 이 자유가 또다시 에고와, 그 욕망과 야심의 노예로 전락해서는 안됩니다. 욕망의 충족은 한치 흔들림 없이 초연한 마음의 평화와 투명성 안에서만 얻을 수 있는 내적 발견을 향해 나아가는 데에 걸림돌이 될 뿐입니다.

3. The Aurovilian should lose the sense of personal possession. For our passage in the material world, what is indispensable to our life and action is put at our disposal according to the place we must occupy. The more we are in conscious contact with our inner being, the more will the exact means be given to us.

3. 오로빌리언에게는 사유의 개념이 없어야 합니다. 우리의 물질적 삶의 도정에서 생활과 활동에 불가결한 것들은 우리가 살아야 할 장소에 맞추어서 주어집니다. 우리가 내적 존재와 더 의식적으로 교감하면 할수록 필요한 것들은 더욱 더 정확히 주어질 것입니다.

4. Work, even manual work, is something indispensable for the inner discovery. If we do not work, if we do not put our consciousness into matter, matter will never develop. To allow the consciousness to organize a little matter by means of our body is very good. To create order around us helps to create order within us. We should organize our lives not according to outer artificial rules, but according to an organized inner consciousness, for if we let life go on without subjecting it to the control of the higher consciousness, it becomes dispersed and inexpressive. It is a waste of time in the sense that no conscious use is made of matter.

4. 일은, 그것이 육체 노동이라고 할 지라도 내면을 발견해 나가는 데에 없어서는 안되는 요소입니다. 일하지 않는다면, 우리의 의식을 물질에 보내지 않는다면, 물질은 결코 발전하지 않을 것입니다. 우리의 육체를 매개로 하여 의식이 물질을 조금씩 조직해 나가도록 하는 것이 바람직합니다. 주변을 질서정연하게 정돈해가는 것은 내부를 질서정연하게 하는 데 도움이 됩니다. 우리는 우리의 삶을 외부의 인위적인 규율이 아니라 정돈된 내면의식에 따라 꾸려가야 합니다. 삶을 보다 높은 의식에 맡기지 않고 그대로 방치해 놓으면 우리의 삶은 산산이 흩어져 무의미해집니다. 물질을 의식적으로 활용하지 않았다는 점에서 그것은 시간 낭비일 따름입니다.

5. The whole earth must prepare itself for the advent of the new species, and Auroville wants to work consciously to hasten this advent.

5. 온 지구가 새로운 종의 출현을 대비해야만 합니다. 오로빌은 이 종의 출현을 앞당기기 위해 의식적으로 일하고자 합니다.

6. Little by little it will be revealed what this new species must be, and, meanwhile, the best course is to consecrate ourselves entirely to the Divine.

6.이 새로운 종이 과연 무엇인지는 서서히 드러날 것이며, 그동안 할 수 있는 최선의 일은 우리 자신을 신성에 온전히 바치는 것입니다.

7. The only true liberty is that obtained by union with the Divine. One can unite with the Divine only when the ego is mastered.

7. 진정한 해방은 신성과의 합일에 의해서만 얻어집니다. 에고가 극복되었을 때에만 우리는 신성과 합일할 수 있습니다.
