Can I work for food and shelter?

Auroville is a township in full development with limited resources. So most places do not have the means to cover the living expenses of student interns; instead they usually prefer to provide employment opportunities to permanent workers.

The climate is best from January to March. The April-June period is hot and dry. After the May-June peak, the temperature slowly falls from July to the end of the year. July to September there may be sporadic summer storms. The monsoon rains and noticeably cooler temperatures come from October onwards, usually through to the end of December.

The hostel and catering facilities are well developed in Auroville and cater every year for thousands of visitors and tourists from all over the world.

From March to November, many places offer discount rates for individual students on long-term stays. It is also sometimes possible to look after someone's house during the summer months for a nominal participation in its maintenance.

How is it for health?

The Auroville Health Services are usually accessible to intern students on the same conditions as for Long Term Guests. A wide range of practices are available, from allopathic, Ayurvedic, Siddha, Tibetan and homeopathic medicine to various alternative healing methods. The main centres are the Auroville Health Centre (allopathic and homeopathic services), Quiet Healing Centre (body work and alternative therapies), and the Bharat Nivas Multipurpose Health Centre (mainly homeopathy).
